About TICD

TICD genesis goes back to 1963 when it was established to provide training to community 
development workers to spearhead and facilitate the development of the newly independent country. The Institute was conferred independent legal existence into an autonomous institution by the Tengeru Institute of Community Development (Establishment) Order, 2013 and Parliamentary Resolution No. 1 of 2014. It is one of the prominent and 
specialized institution in community development offering technical education, training, and research and consultancy services in Eastern Sub-Saharan Africa. The institute, fully accredited by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE), offers technical education and training in the Competence-Based Approach (CBA). It offers courses in Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor Degree and Master’s Degree of Community Development; Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor Degree of Gender and Community Development; and Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor Degree in Project Management for Community Development including Master’s Degree in Project Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation. The institute
envisages being a center of excellence for community development training and demand-driven research and consultancies by producing innovative community development
professionals with the knowledge, participatory techniques, and skills to help communities overcome their challenges.

About Maendeleo scholarship fund

The Maendeleo Scholarship Fund is established to encourage students with good academic
 standings and lack financial capabilities to pursue their academic careers in community
 development fields to further their studies at Tengeru Institute of Community Development.
 The Fund focuses on students and individuals who lack accessibility to pursue
 their academic careers by providing financial assistance to students pursuing their academic
 career in Programmes offered at TICD. The Scholarship Fund will be offered to
mid-career professionals who have outstanding academic achievements and want to
 increase their knowledge and potential through the programmes provided by our institution
 but facing financial constraints.

Maendeleo Scholarship Fund Eligibility Criteria

Financial Need:

1. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, with limited financial resources to 
support their education.                                                                2. Evidence of low family income or financial hardship will be required.

Academic Performance:

1. Applicants for NTA level 4 should have admission of Tengeru Institute of
Community Development

2. Applicants for NTA level 5 and NTA level 6 should have a strong academic record, with a minimum GPA of 3.5

3. Transcripts and academic references will be used to assess academic performance.

Commitment to Community Development:

1. Applicants must exhibit a genuine and passionate commitment to community
 development and related programs offered by the Tengeru Institute of Community Development

2. A well-written personal statement describing their dedication to community
 development is required.

Motivation:

1. Applicants should demonstrate a clear and compelling motivation to pursue
 studies related to community development.

2. They should articulate their goals, aspirations, and how their education will
 contribute to the betterment of their community and society as a whole.

Credible Referees:

Applicants must provide references from credible sources, including:

1. At least one academic referee (e.g., a teacher, professor, or academic advisor)
 who can guarantee for the applicant’s academic abilities and potential.

2. At least one community leader who can attest to the applicant’s financial need, 
commitment to community development and involvement in community activities.

3. Contact information for referees should be included in CV, and they should be willing to provide recommendations if contacted.

Application Deadline:

Applicants must submit their scholarship application and all required documents 
not later than November 24th, 2023.

Compliance with Institute Requirements:

Applicants must meet any additional eligibility criteria and application requirements specified by the Tengeru Institute of Community Development 
for the Maendeleo Scholarship.

Interview

Applicants may be required to participate in an interview as part of the selection
 process to further evaluate their suitability for the scholarship.

Renewal Criteria (if applicable):

• This scholarship award is for one academic year and can be renewed when needed.

• If the Maendeleo Scholarship is to be renewed, recipients must maintain a
 specified level of academic performance and continue to demonstrate their commitment to community development to be eligible for renewal.

• It is important to note that the specific eligibility criteria and application process may
 vary over time, so applicants should refer to the official scholarship guidelines and

General Criteria for TICD Maendeleo Scholarship:

(a) The scholarship is open for Tanzanians only.

(b) Applicant(s) must have admission letter to pursue studies at TICD
in specified courses.


(c) Needy applicant(s) must provide evidence of financial need;

(d) Applicant(s) must have the ability to communicate effectively in English 
both orally and in writing;

(e) Applicant(s) must submit certified copies of the original academic transcripts
and certificates in relevant fields as well as birth certificate;

(f) Applicant(s) must submit recommendations letter from two (2) referees,
one must be academic staff member of the School/ issuing the completion
certificate and one community leader familiar with his/her
academic achievements, character, personality and community engegement;

(g) The applicant(s) must submit a motivation letter that demonstrates personal/
professional goals, reasons for applying for TICD Maendeleo scholarship, reasons
for a need to pursue studies at TICD, contribution of applicant (Innovation, talents,
skills, leadership potential) and financial need (maximum 400 words).

(h) The applicant(s) must submit a Curriculum Vitae (CV) (maximum length of 1 page).

(i) Applicant(s) must not be beneficiary of any other scholarship awards
