NATIONAL WOMEN RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION CENTRE (NWRDC)
National Women’s Research and Documentation Center (NWRDC) the national associate center which was established in 2009 aiming to carry out research, capacity building and advocate on women issues, including women rights, women empowerment, gender equality, and gender based violence (GBV) and women in peace building.
The National center was formed through myriad consultation meetings of stakeholders and technical support from UNESCO/UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), UN-Women, in collaboration with Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children and stakeholders decided the Tengeru Institute of Community Development (TICD) to host this national associate center.
This Centre performs the following functions:-
- Coordinate research projects on women, gender and peace building;
- Collect, process and store of gender related data and statistics for utilization and dissemination;
- Promote new methodology for studying the historical social, economic, political and cultural experiences of women in Tanzania;
- Create and building a network of stakeholders on women issues in Tanzania;
- Organize seminars, symposia and trainings on women, gender and peace building initiatives;
- Provide research platform to researchers, scholars, etc. on women gender and peace building issues in Tanzania;
- Promote women rights, gender equality, and peace building in Tanzania
- Advocate respect for human rights of women in Tanzania;
- Activate role of women in economic, social and political, and cultural domains at national, regional and global level;
- Produce information and data as a catalyst for change in gender justice;
- Provide legal aid on pro bono basis to victims of GBV and other legal challenges affecting women;
- Implement policies, strategies and program relating to women empowerment in Tanzania;
- Prepare programs, implementation, follow up and evaluate implementation of women and gender development policy;
- Create virtual network between the center and WIWs as well as creation of digital library for the dissemination of resources and publications;
- Provide support and training for the development of policy-oriented research, research based policies for women’s rights and gender equality; and
- Advise the Government on women and gender issues in general.
The Centre is led by a Manager.
