JAMII OUTREACH AND DIGITAL INNOVATION CENTRE (JODIC)

Jamii Digital Outreach and Innovation Centre (JODIC) was established in 2019 with the responsibility of managing community engagement, apprenticeship, and managing digital innovation and entrepreneurship. JODIC has been at the forefront in preparing students with skills for self-employment by offering training and various methods that will enhance the spirit of creativity among students.

The Centre performs the following activities:

  • Promote innovation among students, members of staff and communities through activities that encourage and promote innovative thinking;
  • Develop process and tools that help potential innovators to develop rough ideas to practical outputs;
  • Provide technical expertise to innovators in order to turn ideas into reality;
  • Harness students’ entrepreneurial drive and creative passion;
  • Act as an intermediary between the community, ideas and resources;
  • Provide access to a workspace with facilities, digital tools and other required resources to innovators.
  • Link innovators with both private and public organizations’ stakeholders;
  • Disseminate innovative practice models that generates long-lasting impacts in the community;
  • Establish and strengthen networks and partnerships, both nationally and internationally with other like-minded organizations;
  • Develop the institution-specific program on ideas incubation, mentoring, training and stakeholders engagement.
  • Organize capacity building sessions on digital skills and innovations to students, community members and other stakeholders;
  • Strengthen interaction and knowledge transfer between and scaling up of innovative practices across DICs;
  • Provide innovative practices that inform the activities of the parent Ministry and other social sector ministries and public and private organization on the attainment of more significant social impact;
  • Coordinate community engagement activities carried out by the academic and non-academic directorates/units;
  • Implement the community engagement strategic plan and other available guiding tools;
  • Disseminate innovative practice models that generates long-lasting impacts in the community;
  • Promote the integration of community engagement, apprenticeship and innovation into the curricula; and
  • Provide entrepreneurial education to individuals in the local community through classroom instruction and experiential learning.
